Behind 2006 Heisman Trophy winner, Troy Smith, Ohio State entered the 2007 BCS National Championship with a 12-0 mark after defeating second ranked Michigan, 42-39, in what was dubbed the Game of the Century. Smith threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns and capped the year by receiving than 91% of the first place votes, a record that stood for 13 years.

Things looked promising for the top ranked Buckeyes after All-American specialist Ted Ginn Jr. ran the opening kickoff 93 yards to give Ohio State an early lead.  However, not long after, the momentum would shift with Ginn getting injured during the celebration. Without Ginn's speed, Florida used their speed to dominate.  Next year's Heisman winner, freshman Tim Tebow, contributed both a passing and rushing touchdown in the 41-14 thumping by the Gators.

This marked the first time that an Ohio State head coach would coach against his successor with Urban Meyer getting the better of Jim Tressel on that night.  Each of them signed this National Championship logo ball beautifully in black sharpie with Coach Tressel adding "Go Bucks!"
