Autographed Letter Signed (ALS) by Ohio State's first ever head coach Alexander Spinning Lilley and dated October 1885 while attending prep school. The letter, written to his sister Hattie, contains multiple references to football including a funny note that he took an "awful whack to the cheek" while playing.

A plaque at Ohio Stadium memorializes him as "A Lone and Ardent Volunteer." Light soiling and envelope fold marks. The letter is a single page, double-sided, that is approximately 5.75" x 9".
