Collector Edward Koczela of Adams, Massachusetts, set out to get autographs through the mail in the 1970's. Focused on All-Americans and College Hall of Famers, Koczela sent out thick cardstock that measures approximately 3.5" x 6.5", a perfect fit in a standard sized envelope.
This particular return came from 1939 Ohio State All-American and assistant coach Esco Sarkkinen. Sarkkinen oblighed the request, signing beautifully in black fiber tip marker. Koczela artfully cut a round edge along the top of the autograph.
Sarkkinen was inducted into Ohio State's Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1980. Includes original return mailing envelope as well with Sarkkinen's address label affixed to the top left.
