Not too many Ohio State recruits arrive on campus with as much fanfare as Ohio's Mr. Football and the 1995 National Defensive Player of the Year, Andy Katzenmoyer. So much so, the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin allowed his jersey number 45 to come out of retirement so the Big Kat could wear it.
The Westerville South graduate went on to have a brilliant three-year career at Ohio State, winning the Butkus in 1997 and being a consensus All-American that season. He was a First Team All-Big Ten selection in all three seasons and the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1996. He was a First Round selection by the New England Patriots in 1999 and went on to help the Pats win Super Bowl XXXVI. Katzenmoyer was inducted into Ohio State's Varsity O Hall of Fame in 2009.
Katzenmoyer signed the front of his practice jersey in black sharpie, adding the inscription, "Folks... He's a good one!" referring to ABC's Brent Musberger's introduction to the College Football world of Andy, stating, "The freshman from Columbus, Ohio, and folks, he's a good one!" This Champion XL practice jersey shows heavy use and a lot of team repairs, particularly on the right shoulder.
