This program marks the beginning of an era and Ohio State dominance that continues to today.  After a less than ideal coaching stint with Head Coach Wes Fesler (previous 3x All-American player for OSU), the future Hall of Famer Woody Hayes took the Head Coaching job over in 1951 at THE Ohio State University and this program marks his first game as Head Coach. The Buckeyes sent their new coach home with a victory in his OSU debut, but it was a struggle. Ohio State scored a second quarter touchdown on a 21-yard pass, but that would be the only points scored by either team on the afternoon. Ohio State shutout the SMU visitors, 7-0, in front of 80,735 at Ohio Stadium. Rare program that is a must for any Ohio State fan.
