This very ballot helped Les Horvath win Ohio State's first Heisman Trophy in 1944. The offered Official Ballot (5.5 inches x8.5 inches) was submitted by Jay Fleming, the Sports Editor at The Jackson Citizen Patriot in Jackson, Michigan. Fleming, in pencil, correctly casted a first place vote for Leslie Horvath and voted Army's Felix Blanchard (1945 winner) and Navy's Harold Hamburg as second and third, respectively.
Horvath was also a member of Ohio State's first national championship team in 1942. He was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1966 and Ohio State's Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1977.
Heisman ballots are an extreme rarity! A receipt stamp was not used by the Downtown Athletic Club until at least 1948. Original mailing fold marks are present, but this has been kept flat since. Would look beautiful individually framed or as a group in your Buckeye Room.
