An Antique Sterling Silver Ohio State Armory Spoon. Beautifully designed by Goodman Bros. of Columbus (etched on the back), this Spoon has an engraving of the Ohio State Armory with "Armory Building O.S.U. Columbus Ohio" etched on the handle. The multipurpose facility had a gymnasium, canvas running track, seats for 750, two swimming pools, and a cannon room. Constructed in 1898 for a total cost of $115,000, the Armory was designed to resemble a medieval castle. Ohio State's first ever basketball game was played on December 2, 1898, when they defeated East High School 25-4 at The Armory. In 1918, the U.S. Army took over the building and used it for troop housing during World War I. The building stood through a fire in 1935. Another fire devastated the building in 1958, damaging it beyond repair. The building was demolished in 1959. Highly sought after by spoon collectors and Ohio State collectors alike.
