The defending Western Conference Champions entered the game with Denison on October 27, 1917, with a perfect 3-0 record and yet to be scored upon. On a rainy day and a muddy track, Ohio State had no problem scoring touchdowns. A couple long runs highlighted a 67-0 beatdown of the Granville team.
Ohio State would go on to win the Western Conference Championship and complete their second consecutive undefeated season. Their lone hiccup was a 0-0 tie against Auburn in a fundraising game for the American soldiers. Ohio State's Chic Harley became Ohio State's first two-time All-American and two years later would be honored for a third time.
