A 1972 and 1973 Media Guide signed in black sharpie by the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner, Archie Griffin.  This was Griffin's freshman and sophomores seasons before he took home any of his Heisman Trophies.  In 1972, the Buckeyes went 9-1 in the regular season with their only loss happening in East Lansing against Michigan State by a touchdown. They finished tied with Michigan at 7-1 in the Big Ten and got the nod to the 1973 Rose Bowl. The following year, the Buckeyes went undefeated in the regular season with a 10-10 tie to Michigan serving as their only hiccup. Controversially, Ohio State was narrowly voted to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl for  their second straight season. They went on to embarrass USC in Pasadena, 42-21, to finish ranked second in the country.

Griffin would win the Heisman Trophy in each of his final two seasons and go on to appear in a record four Rose Bowls in his playing career. Archie was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in 1986 and Ohio State's Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1981.
