Head Coach John Cooper Signed Press Packet and Game Notes from his Ohio State coaching debut against Syracuse on September 10, 1988. The Orangemen brought a 14-game unbeaten streak into the game at Ohio Stadium after going undefeated in 1987, tying Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, and topping Temple in the 1988 season opener.
Behind four Pat O'Morrow Field Goals, touchdowns from Jeff Ellis and Carlos Snow, and no penalties or turnovers, Cooper and the Buckeyes were victorious, 26-9. It vaulted the Buckeyes temporarily in the Top 25 and set off an up-and-down rollercoaster in Cooper's first season in Columbus.
Cooper signed the front cover of the press card boldly in black sharpie, adding his "Go Bucks" inscription.
