The 1946 season was the only one led by former Paul Brown assistant, Paul O. Bixler. The Buckeyes finished the season 4-3-2 and facing two top 10 opponents in the final two weeks of the season led to anxiety in Columbus and ultimately, Bixler's departure. In February of 1947, Bixler resigned, citing high pressure associated with being Ohio State's head coach.
