Jim Tressel signed 2001 tickets to the basketball game and football game where he announced and fulfilled his promise. After being hired, he said at the basketball game that his team would make the fans proud in his first trip to Ann Arbor, the Buckeyes delivered with a win over the favored Wolverines in Ann Arbor that season that led to a complete 180 in this long-time rivalry. Tressel went 9-1 against Michigan and led Ohio State to the 2002 National Championship. He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tressel added the inscription to the basketball ticket, "Promise Made" and to the football ticket, "Promise Kept".
