The 1972 season began a historic era for Ohio State Buckeyes That year the college football world was introduced to a freshman named Archie Griffin, who ran for 239 yards and a score against North Carolina in his second collegiate game. The Buckeyes went 9-1 in the regular season with their only loss happening in East Lansing against Michigan State by a touchdown.They finished tied with Michigan at 7-1 in the Big Ten and got the nod for the 1973 Rose Bowl on account of their 14-11 win over the Wolverines.
