Group of 16 Original Type 1 Snapshots and 15 Negatives from Ohio State's first ever trip to the Rose Bowl in 1921. After an undefeated regular season that included wins over rivals Michigan in Illinois in consecutive weeks, the Buckeyes were rewarded by accepting an invitation to represent the East in the seventh annual Rose Bowl. The school's first "California Trip" was exciting for the OSU team and fans, but they were no match for the National Champions as they were shutout by California. For Cal, this was the first of four straight National Championships.
These photos were taken by one of the 42,000 fans that were in attendance that day. There's a photo of the Marching Band taking the field at the Rose Bowl, which was played at Tournament Park at the time. The other photos include many action shots of the game including one of a kickoff, some in the other team's territory, a couple with the blimp flying overhead, and one isolated shot that shows a lot of detail of the iconic blimp! These 104-year-old images are absolutely PRICELESS of Ohio State's first ever Rose Bowl appearance, let alone their first participating bowl game! A must have for any football fan that loves college football's history and tradition!
Includes original envelope where the photographer penciled in Football, Jan 1/21 Calif. vs Ohio State along with the score.
