The freshman scored a touchdown to help lead the Buckeyes to an upset win over third ranked Michigan and a Big Ten Championship to earn a berth into the 1973 Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes ran into a buzzsaw out in California, however, as top ranked USC scored a 42-17 win on their way to the National Championship.
