When it comes to the early Western Conference days, rivalries dominated the college football landscape. During the Chic Harley days, there wasn't many bigger than the games that pitted Illinois and Ohio State against one another.  As was the case in 1917, when unbeaten Illinois traveled to Columbus to face an unblemished Buckeyes team with the Western Conference Championship on the line.

The game was in question for much of the day, but Ohio State always felt in control. Chic Harley threw the only touchdown on the day to Howard Courtney, booted two field goals, and was successful on the only extra point try as the Buckeyes claimed a 13-0 win and their second consecutive league crown. The school newspaper claimed a "mammoth" crowd of 15,000 witnessed the championship win, the largest gathering at Ohio Field to date. 

This program has one minor fold mark on the cover in the top right, but has remained flat for nearly 100 years.  Early Ohio State programs are always sought after, but even more so when they were games that Chic Harley was on the field.
