Ohio State split the first four games of the season before a road win at 15th ranked Wisconsin propelled them down the stretch.  Ohio State leaped back into the rankings after that win and showed they were worthy over the next month. After defeating Northwestern and Illinois at home, the Buckeyes defeated 20th ranked Iowa in the final home game. That setup a showdown between two top 10 teams in Ann Arbor with a Big Ten Championship on the line. Hopalong Cassady ran for 146 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and Don Vicic added a run of his own as Ohio State upset Michigan, 17-0. The Buckeyes finished 7-2 on the season, but a perfect 6-0 in the conference. Cassady was awarded the school's third Heisman Memorial Trophy Award at the end of that season.

These extremely rare Gold Pants were awarded to a reserve defensive end. The recipient's initials have been blurred digitally to protect his identity.
