The 1973 Ohio State-Michigan game serves as maybe the most controversial in the nearly 130-year rivalry. Coming at the height of the Ten Year War, Bo vs. Woody, Ohio State players ripped down the Michigan Boosters banner as they took the field.  After leading 10-0 at halftime, Ohio State's offense would get shutdown in the second half. Michigan tied the score at 10 in the 4th quarter after converting a 4th down conversion into a 10-yard touchdown run. The Wolverines had two field goal attempts in the final two and a half minutes that each failed and the two undefeated teams would have to settle for a tie.  A telephone vote by the Big Ten Athletic Directors elected Ohio State to be the conference's representative in the Rose Bowl, despite head coach Woody Hayes saying that Michigan deserved to go because OSU needed to win to secure the berth.
